To answer several items brought up in this discussion: First, here is a wiki on Bob so as you can see warts and all. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Bob_Barr
I take offence of "co-opting" the "Revolution" I want to state that although Alex Jones and a few others were instrumental in getting Ron to run, the first political type people to get the ball rolling were hard core Libertarians. Even the "Revolution" term was started by Libertarian activist Ernest Hancock from Phoenix. Libertarians from all over the country saw that Ron was the great communicator for liberty idea's next to Harry Browne (RIP), and just a few other excellent communicators of the message. Ron Paul is probably as close to Jesus as we are going to get in the freedom movement. Ron himself wasn't entering the race to be president for himself... He always said it was "our revolution". As you guys well know, many in the RP movement are mad and dropped out helping the revolution continue. How do I know? Because of those I know in the local meetup group that have quit! I am helping the best I can at the local and state level as a registered voter of the Republican party and participating in the local and state caucus groups as time allows. This needs to continue, but so many I know that donated money and time to the RP campaign are now switching to help Obama!!! Egads!!! Knowing that McCain is probably going to get the nomination, People that could vote in November for liberty, do have a choice with the Libertarian Party. At the Libertarian Heartland convention, there were at a minimum, half of those attending that were RP supporters. Certainly the LP would love for Ron to run under our banner, and now that he has won his congressional seat back, they actively were seeking for him to run. Ron simply will not do this due to ballot access issues in the states and the amount of money it takes to get on the ballots. Further, Ron does not want to cause a problem with his son Ronnie's political aspirations of taking over his fathers congressional seat. If Ron would run as a Libertarian, the Republican party would crucify Ronnie when he runs for congress!!! http://www.myspace.com/r_w_paul
In any case, I feel that Ron is MORE Libertarian than Bob. Bob is a little too conservative for me, but has the name recognition, and the drive for promoting liberty. Bob has changed some positions on previously held Republican ideas, but everyone has a right to learn. Even people reading this right now has changed what they believe and what they support over the course of your lifetime! I have met Bob several times. Like Ron, Bob is not doing this cause he wants to seek power in being a president, Bob is doing it to energize the base of liberty minded people to save this country from total destruction. Ron and Bob are friends. Even Bob's website is done by Terra Eclipse just like Ron's. I will continue in the local Republican efforts to change that party, but there is a lot of old money there that is hard to overcome. The work is going to be difficult but necessary. All I am asking, is that when and if McCain is the chosen disciple of the Republican ticket, then consider a vote for the Libertarian candidate in November, even if it isn't Bob. I did not come here to co-opt anything. I am excited to keep the fires of liberty burning brightly and I for one am willing to support others that want to do the same. I am not like others that also went into debt supporting Ron, now feeling they have wasted their money... these people just do not understand what it takes to be forever vigilent in supporting the cause of liberty. Yes, the revolution continues...
Peace.
